Which programming language do you prefer?
I like C best. It is powerful, logical and precise. There are many advanced programming languages. But C is more effective for us to solve problems about hardware. And it is helpful to enhance my thinking model of logic.

  3. Try Java its similar to C and its very powerful too. I like Java. :-)
  4. There is no best language, you must choose, what you need.
C/C++ when performance matters, or for drivers, operating systems,...
Java ist plattform independend, easy, a script language.
phyton has not any strict types

I prefer JAVA. It is powerful and easy to learn. Anyhow, I think one should learn any programming languages if necessary.

yes, different tools meet different needs. And it interesting to learn more, if time permitted.^_^

That is right we need time to learn more knowledge. But it is worthwhile. And I enjoy it.
  8. I like to use C#, i learn it during my school education.

But i prefere the script languages ruby because it have a nice syntax and is very easy to handle with it.
  9. Hey Java-Fans (and also C# Fans). You should try out Clojure! It's really nice to combine Clojure with either Java or C#.

lol what? Java is surely not a scripting language. I guess you're confusing it with JavaScript - almost the same name but a completely different language. Large parts of AOSP (android) are written in Java. Do you think google would write their mobile os in a scripting language? :P
  11. I would say C++ is a good start, as many of the programming languages are based on that. My best beloved one is surely Qt, for smaller projects that one is a good and friendly choice. Actually I also like its community, so the forums are pretty friendly.

On the other hand for scientists Matlab is the real option. With its tested classes and functions it makes a researcher's life really easy.

Java and JavaScript are unfortunatelly still on my whislist. I have to admit that I have always been too lazy to learn that one, however it is also surely a good one.

ok Java is only interpreted, but it is still the same as php, and php is often called as a script language

    Wrong.
    • Java is compiled to bytecode and that bytecode is interpreted by the JVM. It is not a scripting language.
    • JavaScript is a scripting language like PHP.
  14. php is also compiled to byte Code since 5.?

You do not distribute the resulting byte code. Did you ever upload PHP bytecode to lima-city? Probably not. Even JavaScript code will be compiled to an intermediate format (bytecode) for performance reasons. But that does not make it a "compiled language".

But you distribute Java bytecode. Usually users do not get the source code of Java applications, because they do not need it. Users will never need a compiler. It is like C: the developer writes source code and compiles it into machine language (Java: bytecode). This binary file is executed by the computer (C: processor, Java: JVM).

Do you see the difference? (If not: scripts get compiled at runtime) ;-)

Seriously, the Matlab language is a piece of shit. Matlab is alright if you just want to do some calculations and some plotting but for anything sophisticated it falls short compared to other widespread programming languages.

One function per file is just a silly limitation. Closures might help a bit, but it's still not nice. GNU Octave fixes many things that are wrong with the Matlab language but it's still not something that I would consider for any bigger software project.

It seems that Matlab appeals to many people with a mathematical mindset. And that is okay. But for anyone who thinks more like a computer scientist, it is just a sorry excuse for a programming language. So, if you are happy with Matlab, it's okay to keep using it. Matlab (the environment) comes with a lot of useful functionality for certain purposes and if these match your requirements, then it makes sense to use this functionality. But if you need to program something on your own, it just gets ugly.

A good alternative for the Matlab language is Julia. It's still a pretty young language and it doesn't have all the things that you can access with the Matlab language. So, depending on your requirements it might be good enough or it might be lacking things. To my knowledge it currently doesn't come with a graphical interface. Some people need this, some people don't. Use whatever you feel most comfortable with.

I really like Java, It's the Programming language I started with. Its' Syntax is precise, and simple, yet it's a very powerful language. It's also a great beginner language because you can really easily start to learn the concepts of Object oriented Programming.

The more you learn ,the more you find you don't know .And the languages are just tools .You need more practices .
  19. hi,

i started with Basic ( Blitz Basic ) to learning the Basics, and switched to C/C++.
Now im develop games with C#, powerful ( close to C/C++ ) and not so hard to learn.

  20. Learn a language then go on to learn other languages would be easy.
